are a family of believers in the Lord Jesus Christ as the Son of the
Living God, which He planted in the Piney Chapel community of Limestone
county in 1967. Our heart's desire is to bring honor and glory to our
Lord as we serve Him in our community, state, nation and world. If you
are looking for a "Church Family," accept our invitation to join us in
worship and service.
In 1967 our Lord began a good work through the Limestone Baptist Associational Missions
Committee. The Committee passed a motion that they purchase a five acre tract of land on Elkton Road
with a house on it for the purpose of establishing a mission. Piney Grove Baptist Church under the
leadership of the George T. Willingham sponsored the Mission and conducted a Vacation Bible School
on the property in with 60 persons enrolled. Amen! L. Wayne Howard served as the first Missionary pastor.
In 1969 through the Limestone Baptist Associational Executive Committee, First Baptist Church Athens asked
Piney Grove for the privilege of taking over sponsorship of the new mission.
Church was held in the milk barn for the next several years and God used different
men to lead and pastor the church mission; Donald Travis, Walter Brooks, George Stewart, Harold Daniels,
Ferman Miller and George W. Haynes to name a few. As the body reached out into the Piney Chapel community
and the body grew, the need for a larger building arose. In 1976 the church family raised funds and borrowed
money to begin construction on the 4500 square foot building replacing the milk barn.
Over the next several years, the church continued its mission in the community with other interim and bi-vocational
pastors (e.g. Dr. Steve Lingefelter). The church held Sunday school, VBS's, discipleship training, GA's, RA's,
camps, retreats and more.
In late 1997 Toney Wales was asked to interim as pastor, later voted to part-time/Bi-vocational and called to fulltime in 2004.
The church sought God once again and soon made a plan to
eliminate its debt. In 2000, the $200,000 debt was eliminated. Amen!
As missions and growth continued with the changes in Sunday school &
discipleship for senior and young adults; and the additions of JAM and AWANA for the kids, once
again the building that served well for many years needed costly repairs and more room. A committee
was formed to seek God's will for a solution. After much prayer, research, and committee recommendations
the church voted to begin a phased construction of the building we use today. Amen!
As the Lord continues to lead Elkton Road Baptist Church, we continue with the
mission to seek and save the lost locally through VBS…Backyard Bible clubs...Outreach, nationally through
the cooperative programs and globally through missions in Haiti, Wales and more.
