March Note
Our choir is currently working on our Easter musical for this year. It will be presented on Easter Sunday, April 9, during our morning worship service. You still have time to join us as we prepare for Easter Sunday. We practice at 6:30 on Sunday evenings.
Recently, we began singing a new song in our worship times that I am very excited about adding to our hymn list. Heather Crutcher first sang this song a few months ago and it has fast become a favorite of mine. It was written by Keith and Kristen Getty along with their friend, Graham Kendrick. Graham first approached the Getty’s about the writing of this song. He told his friend’s that he wanted to write a song that would “remind us why our lives are valuable. Not because of what we can do, how long we may live, or how many possessions we can accumulate – but because God made us in His image and our value comes from Him.” He went on to say, “Our worth does not come from within but from Christ. We need to remember these truths every day. In Christ we have an infinite worth because Christ is infinitely valuable. He is our treasure, our satisfaction and our joy.”
Keith Getty says the following about the writing of this song:
“Yet God sent His Son so our worth might be found in something far grander than ourselves. In Christ, no longer do we look to our own accomplishments and achievements to find significance. We look instead to His perfect work on our behalf, and there our souls find the true sense of identity we so crave. The last chorus of our song draws from the rich imagery of 1 Peter, which depicts Jesus as an inheritance and treasure far greater than anything this world has to offer.”
I think the last verse of the song sums up the entire song perfectly.
Two wonders here that I confess:
My worth and my unworthiness.
My value fixed, my ransom paid, at the cross!
